Yifan Hu
Yifan Hu
earned his MSc from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China, and his PhD
from Loughborough University, UK. He worked as a senior scientific
officer in the UK's national Daresbury Laboratory from 1992 to 2001,
doing research on parallel computing and optimization, with applications
to computational fluid dynamics, computational combustion and other
grand challenge problems.
From 2001 to 2007, he worked for Wolfram Research Inc. researching
and developing algorithms for Mathematica in the area of optimization,
graph drawing and network analysis, sparse linear algebra and parallel
computing. He was an adjunct professor at Indiana University, South Bend,
from 2006-2007. Dr Hu is the author of over 30 papers and book chapters,
and a Fellow of the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (FIMA), UK.
He joined AT&T Labs a Principal Technical Staff Member in Research in 2007
and has contributed novel methods for large network visualization
and data analysis for recommender systems based on collaborative filtering.
