AT&T Labs has a long history of collaborative research and mentoring programs with leading universities around the world. Through the years, we have conducted joint trials of newly developed technologies, conducted joint research projects, and developed prototypes from innovative ideas.
Currently we engage in four types of university collaboration activities. - The Virtual University Research Initiative (VURI) is a collaborative program in which AT&T selects a number of top universities and funds educational expenses of students who are working on their PhD dissertations and are willing to do research on areas of interest to AT&T. The students conduct research under the joint supervision of their thesis advisor, an AT&T Labs researcher, and AT&T Labs director of university collaborations. The 2005 VURI programs include: University of California, Berkeley, University of Illinois, University of Michigan, and, the University of Southern California.
- We have continuing collaborations with Carnegie Mellon University, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and the Georgia Institute of Technology in which we do joint research on areas of mutual interest.
- We participate in university research memberships. We are members of the Alliance for Technology Management at the Stevens Institute of Technology and the University of Arkansas’ Center for Advanced Computing and Communications Research.
- We are a partner of the Center for Network Systems, a joint relationship with the University of California, San Diego and various system technology providers and operators
In addition, our researchers continue to serve on thesis committees, teach classes, train interns, and offer mentoring support to promising students. Some of the many universities we work with include: - Carnegie Mellon University
- Georgia Institute of Technology
- Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
